We like to think of video-games as unique entities, each of them with its particular fingerprint. That's why we made our custom score system.
Our score system has two distinct sections: the Trait Chart and the Score Code. These are two sides of the same coin, representing the reviewed game.
Trait Chart
The Trait Chart quantifies characteristics of the game that are unrelated to the quality.
The six traits in the chart are the following:
📖Story-Drive📖
This indicator measures the importance and presence of the story and, in whole, the narrative elements in the game.
🚪Accessibility🚪
This measures how accessible the game is. Accessibility refers to the lack of barriers for starting to play the game for the first time.
🤿Depth🤿
This indicates how deep or intricate the gameplay mechanics reach. More depth does not necessarily mean the game is less accessible.
💀Challenge💀
Pretty obvious, this trait measures how tough the game is.
⌛Duration⌛
This measures the lifespan of the game, including replayability and extra content.
🌎Freedom🌎
This measures how much freedom is given to the player. It could be defined as the opposite of linearity, though there are many linear games that offer a great amount of freedom.
All these traits are measured on a 1-20 scale and collectively form the Trait Chart. It’s important to insist on the fact that the chart area is not proportional to the quality of the game.
Score Code
The Score Code is a combination of scores from four different categories, indicating the game's quality by highlighting its strengths and weaknesses. It has the following format: d1 x F1 F2 F3
The 'x' character acts as a separator between the first element and the remaining three. The scored items, from left to right, are:
d1 - Dimension 📐
This rates the game's ambition, size, and complexity from the developers' perspective. It is rated on a scale of 1-9.
F1 - The Flair 🦅
The graphics, art style, soundtrack and technical performance are rated under this category.
F2 - The Feel 🦊
This digit evaluates the gameplay, including controls, mechanics and difficulty curve.
F3 - The Fuel 🐝
It usually covers the story and characters, the level design, and the overall content and extras.
The three last digits are rated on a hexadecimal scale from 0 to 15 (with 10 to 15 represented by letters A to F). In other words, the best possible score within our formula is 9xFFF.
As for the animals associated with each category, they are a cute addition we made. If you stick around, you'll frequently meet the Falcon, the Fox, and the Firefly.
When writing a review we stick to the following Criteria.
