There's obviously a considerable amount of work behind the physics and technical aspects of the game, although the combat and driving themselves are quite basic. The sheer size of the campaign is enough not to call Blood Wake a small game.
The Flair: B
The water effects are very well crafted, but the rest is nothing to write home about. As for the soundtrack, it's a very decent one and a perfect match for some high-speed action gameplay.
The Feel: 9
The gameplay shows a lot of potential; battling other boats starts out quite fun, and the different vessels feel good to handle. However, although there are several weapons, the combat lacks the depth or adrenaline needed to make it truly interesting. After a few missions, the thrill starts to decrease, never to rise again. In other words, the gameplay gets really repetitive. To make matters worse, the game's difficulty is far from a fair challenge, and, at least for us, it didn't become more engaging over time.
The Fuel: A
The story is unremarkable and never becomes truly interesting, although it plays a very secondary role. Some missions in the campaign are brilliant, but sadly the great majority do nothing to soothe the repetitive gameplay; in fact, they only emphasize it. On the other hand, there's a decent variety of vessels, and they really feel different from one another, both in combat and handling.

Conclusions
Blood Wake is a decent action title, with its main characteristics being its original naval shooter theme and its long, challenging campaign. There's definitely fun to be had, but it will take quite some determination and passion to bypass the burden of its unfair difficulty and repetitive gameplay. All in all, it's a pretty unique game that takes the player to uncharted waters—although it's a ride with a few too many bumps.
